Craft Malt Month Session 1: What's Barley? Why Barley?

  • Lantern Brewing 938 N 95th St Seattle, WA, 98103 (map)

We're kicking off the Craft Malt Month Sunday Happy Hour Sessions on September 8th when we open the doors at 3pm, followed at 4pm with the 'lightning talk' around the questions "What is barley-- and why barley??"

We're starting from the very beginning of the 'grain chain' to build up a good foundation for the following weeks’ sessions that will delve further into malt…It turns out that the world of grain used to make malt is a fascinating subject all on its own, and one that most people aren't familiar with-- but we aim to fix that.

It'll be a quick survey of the world of grain and a look at the basis of all beery goodness, brewing grains.  We'll follow with an overview of the grain scene of Cascadia and the US. Then we'll finish with specifics around barley and get some answers to our initial questions…by Sunday evening, you'll know all about how important barley is to brewing and malting and what role other grains play as well. Your grain brain’s roots and shoots will be set to thrive throughout the sessions covering all things malt!

Our Epigram wheat ale will be on special, and we will have fun with 'show and tell' materials and trivia questions throughout the session.
